The first week of October yearly Empowerment 2000 hosts a comprehensive
"Disability Awareness Week" for Hagerstown, MD, and the surrounding tri-state area.
Here Herb Hardin, a member of the Washington County Board of Education,
participates in "Barrier-Awareness Day" and greets pre-schoolers on hand
for disability sensitivity training at a Western Maryland Hospital Center activity.
This year's activities are scheduled from October 2 through October 8.

Our Mission

To provide the hub by which individuals and organizations can come together to improve the quality of life for all. As such, we will build the disability awareness of the public and strive for a barrier-free community where all persons may enjoy a full and satisfying life.
