What they're saying
About the Computer Lab

“It’s been like a whole new world since Linn invited me to join him to work on the computer in what was then the Staff Library,” said David Clift, a spinal cord injury patient at WMHC for the past 32 years. “I can’t tell you what it’s meant to me. First, it was playing games to help me improve the dexterity in my hands and now, I’m working on my autobiography, the internet and who knows what’s next!”

“It's hard to explain what a difference Linn Hendershot and the Computer Lab have meant to my stay at Western Maryland Hospital Center. It's a place where you find "hope" ... it's Linn's Lemonade Stand. We've all been dealt lemons, but while in the Computer Lab, we find "hope" and truly make lemonade. I'm in constant touch with my family and friends on the Internet and there's not a day that goes by that I don't learn something,” said Bill Luther, a WMHC resident. “This is like a dream come true. I thank God each day for giving me this opportunity.”

"I first met Linn when we were patients together in physical therapy a couple of years ago," said Glenn Cook, a resident that is severely injured from an automobile accident. "After my accident, I could no longer speak and it's indeed hard to describe the incredible frustration that you go through. With the help of a special talking keyboard and the computer, my life has taken an incredible change for the better. Many thanks to our speech pathologist, Cathy Reiter, and Linn for opening some doors. Their efforts have empowered many of us to achieve personal independence"

"I met Linn while helping with Empowerment 2000's Disability Awareness Week and he introduced me to the WMHC Computer Lab," said James Barnett, a recovering 14-year stroke survivor who now lives independently. "The more I learn on the computer and the more I communicate with folks on the Internet I realize that this type of technology is going to play a very key role for me in the years to come in making a contribution to my community and enhancing my own quality of life."

“I can only use my mouth to do different tasks,” said John Wantz, a WMHC patient recovering from a spinal cord injury. “Linn has been after me for a long time to give it a try. I’m sure glad I did. The computer has changed my life.”
