Therapeutic Recreation

The Western Maryland Hosital Center Therapeutic Recreation Department provides an activities program appropriate to the needs and interest of each resident to encourage self-care, resumption of normal activities and maintenance of optimal self-functioning and contact with the environment.

The planned activities are fitted to the needs, abilities and interests of each resident. Activities are provided in individual and group settings for both ambulatory and non-ambulatory residents.

The activities program includes a variety of activities both inside and outside the facility. Planned activities should include, but need not be limited to, such activities as exercise classes, recreational/social activities, literary/educational activities, community activities, spiritual activies, creative activities, intellectually stimulating activities and continuing life experiences that allow the resident to maintain his or her present life-style.
